Get inspired for the new year: Join artist Hannah Lim for an interactive workshop
Looking for some extra inspiration this month? If you’re London-based and in need of a creative pick-me-up, sign up for Today at Apple’s upcoming event, spotlighting brilliant rising artist Hannah Lim. In time for Lunar New Year, expect an enlightening session exploring identity, heritage and personal expression.
Notoriously one of the greyest months of the year, January is also an exciting time of renewal and fresh starts – as both the Eastern and Western worlds ring in the beginning of a new year. So what better time to fill your calendar with events that ignite your creativity for the next lap around the sun?
Taking place on January 22nd from 6.30pm at Apple’s Covent Garden store, the Today at Apple event series has another stellar creative session in store, as artist Hannah Lim takes the stage. The event itself is open to everyone who has registered for a place, and will be made up of an artist’s talk, as well as a hands-on workshop that blends tradition with technology.
With a unique style that combines structural and ornamental elements, Hannah’s work is a bold exploration of her British-Singaporean identity. On the surface colour-filled and playful, her work is loaded with complex cultural symbolism. Often confronting a history of problematic appropriation, Hannah’s sculptural pieces highlight the complexities of the relationship between the East and the West.
Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art and the Ruskin School of Art, Hannah has exhibited her work extensively in both solo and group shows. Her impressive portfolio spans London, New York and Milan, with past exhibitions at renowned spaces such as Pangolin London, Wilder Gallery and Huxley-Parlour. Alongside these shows, she's created exciting projects for clients like Bvlgari Hotel London and Greenwich Peninsula while quickly gaining widespread acclaim and press from the likes of The Times, Architectural Digest and It’s Nice That.
As part of her session with Today at Apple, Hannah will give a talk that takes attendees behind-the-scenes on her practice. As well as sharing her career journey so far, she will discuss recent projects, her inspirations and creative process and the ways her dual heritage shapes her evocative work.
Following Hannah’s presentation, guests will be invited to flex their creativity and create digital designs inspired by the tradition of gifting red envelopes for Lunar New Year – a symbol of good fortune. In a workshop led by Hannah as well as an Apple expert, attendees have the option to use their own materials, or tools provided by Apple – an iPad, Apple Pencil and Procreate.
The workshop will be led by Hannah as well as an Apple expert, as a chance to creatively explore your own identity and ideas, test out Apple products and learn from a rising star of the contemporary art scene. Places are limited for this brilliant opportunity, so be sure to sign up for your spot – see below for all the details.
