Five inspiring courses, scholarships and programmes for emerging creatives
Every few weeks, we’ll be sharing some of the hottest opportunities on our Opportunities Board. This week, we’re showcasing five courses, scholarships and programmes to help emerging creatives gain some valuable skills.
The creative industry is constantly offering opportunities for designers, artists and general makers-and-doers to help excel in their careers. That’s why, every few weeks, Creative Lives will be rounding up all the best job listings, events and programmes our Opportunities Board has to offer.
This week, we’re featuring five courses, scholarships and programmes for those taking their first steps into the creative industries. Whether you want to up your chances of employability, or learn some new skills in courses that you otherwise cannot afford, we’ve got you covered.
LGBTQIA+ Pride Month Scholarship – SuperHi

Opportunity closes: 29th June 2021
For pride month, SuperHi is giving 50 free year-long subscriptions to its unlimited membership programme to LGBTQIA+ individuals who cannot otherwise afford it. Subscriptions include courses on design, code and project management, as well as exclusive tutorials, a free peer mentorship programme and the ability to use every single feature of the SuperHi editor to your advantage.

Foundation Scholarships – British Fashion Council
Type: Scholarship
Opportunity closes: 5th July 2021
Starting, or in the final year of, a fashion design BA or MA in September? Then the British Fashion Council may give you a contribution to your course tuition fees or production costs for your final collection. You don’t have to be British to apply, but you must be studying or having an offer at a BFC Colleges Council member college. Last year’s cohort were picked by a panel that included Lady Amanda Harlech and LOVE magazine’s Pierre A. M’Pelé, so get ready to impress!

HeadStart Action Programme – 2-3 Degrees

23rd June to 18th August 2021, 5:30pm
Whether you’re mastering your A-Levels or doing a BTEC course, 2-3 Degrees are looking for 15 to 18 year olds from Southwark to join the HeadStart Action programme. This is a chance to gain employability skills and virtual work experience – plus, if you commit to attending all ten weeks of the course, expect a prize at the end!
And if you are reading this after the 23rd June, fear not! There’s also a physical week-long course to help you get work ready, from the 19th to 23rd July, again at 5:30pm.

Accelerate PR Training Programme – WX Communications

Fresh graduate? Looking to change career? Over-21 in general? WX Accelerate is a nine-month-long training programme for those aged 21 and over who are interested in a career in public relations, but who’ve found the means to start inaccessible. Applicants must be the first in their family to attend university, or eligible for free school meals back when they were in secondary school. Above else, applicants must also be passionate about PR and media, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Drawing Diversity: Trans and Non-Binary Character Based Research – The AOI
Based: Virtual
Type: Workshop
12th July 2021, 1pm
As greater awareness of transgender and non-binary identities increases in society, illustrator Julian Gray, who is trans himself, will show you how he authentically and truthfully depicts other trans people in his illustrations. While this workshop will be super-inspiring to both trans and cis illustrators alike, only a limited amount of tickets will be sold, to create discussion.
