Are you a new or existing freelancer who is stuck on how to navigate the tricky world of self-assessment tax returns?
Join us at the Good Growth Hub for an interactive, informal and practical workshop exploring everything you need to know about setting up for self-assessment as a freelancer.
This session will be led by Dan Tsu, a creative freelancer who has worked extensively in live events, youth education and across the creative industries for over 10 years (combined with part time PAYE work).
The session will be followed by 1:1 support sessions for direct advice on completing your self-assessment tax return.
During the session we'll cove
- Setting up for self-assessment- Registering for self assessment (UTR)
- Creating a government gateway account
- Tracking income and expenses
- Introduction to filing your tax return
- Walkthrough of key self-assessment sections for creative freelancers
- Deductions – specific to creative industries (eg workspace, materials, travel, bills)
- Paying your tax
- Payment terms, 50% advance (’payments on account’)
- Common mistakes - penalties & tips for timely payments
- Practical tips and resources
What you will need to bring to this session:
- UTR and registered self employed- Laptop
- P60 or P45 forms from your employer, if applicable for those who worked part time (on PAYE) during the 2023-24 tax year.
Duration:
- Masterclass: 12 – 2pm (12.30 start)- 1-1 support sessions: 2.30 – 4.30pm (please note, you will be able to sign up for the 1-1 session at the beginning of the masterclass)
Please note, in order to attend this event you must be aged 18-30 and currently live in one of the following four boroughs: Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest.
