Open Call for Animated Histories Film Festival
Youth Engagement (Shout Out Loud) at English Heritage
English Heritage’s National Youth Engagement programme (Shout Out Loud) in partnership with the Aardman Academy are holding an open call for young animators to share short animated films based on their favourite heritage stories, be they personal, linked to an English Heritage site, or any other historic people and places that inspire them.
Nine animations will be selected from across various age and award categories including ‘Most Inspired Story’ to be part of the Animated Histories Film Festival, with the possibility for additional films to be showcased as runners-up and highly commended.
One young animator aged 18-25 will be selected to work on a commission with English Heritage and the Aardman Academy in 2025 to bring to life, through stopmotion animation, a heritage story linked specifically to English Heritage. They will work with English Heritage historians and colleagues, whilst also receiving support and mentoring from the multi-award-winning team at the Aardman Academy.
Young animators must be between the ages of 11-25 (on the 12th December 2024) to take part and be based in the UK to be in with the chance of being selected for the Animated Histories Film Festival.
How To Apply
To be considered for the festival, your animation must be inspired by a heritage-related story or theme. This could be an English Heritage site or story, or any historical figure or place you know about, including from your own personal heritage.
The film should be between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in length and submitted as a MP4 or mov file.
Your piece should be in stop-motion style. You can use almost anything to make a stop-motion animation including photos, clay/plasticine models, toys, puppets, split-pin puppets, sand, illustrations – or even people!
You can submit one entry per person and you must be based in England. You must also be between the ages of 11-25 on the date of the deadline (6th January 2025).
