Reed Words

Reed Words makes brands and businesses stronger through language, by using words to enhance every aspect of an organisation and its communications.

The team helps their clients find the right voice – one that reflects their personality as a company, and which gets the right messages to the right audiences.

Behind the scenes Reed Words does a lot of work around internal language: how people write and talk to each other as well as their customers and partners.

Work includes verbal identity (tone of voice and messaging), advertising campaigns, UX writing for digital products, packaging, films, books, and anything else that relies on writing.

Inside the Company

Reed Words was founded in 2013 by Mike Reed and Wendy Martin. They wanted to build an agency about the power of writing – and writers – to make a difference to brands and businesses.

From the two founders, it has grown to a team of almost 20, based in London, Manchester, and New York City.

The company works with household names like Google, Sony, Meta, Tesco, Formula 1, and Heinz, as well as smaller companies, charities, and startups.

Reed Words also partners with other creative agencies to offer an all-around visual and verbal package.

Mission and Values

The vision is to be world-famous as the agency that put language, writing, and writers at the heart of brands and business.

The mission is to build an international agency delivering smart, creative, and effective brand language for exciting clients.

Culture and Benefits

The culture is collaborative, friendly, hard-working, and thoughtful. The agency tries to make sure everyone has a good work/life balance, and that everyone is supported.

The Reed Words team are not pretentious or precious. Everyone is open to constructive, positive feedback. It’s about great ideas, executed brilliantly – not who they come from.

On offer is a high-quality pension, well above the statutory requirement, as well as discretionary annual bonuses to all based on the company’s performance.

Entry-Level Opportunities

Reed Words is a small team meaning junior talent enjoys many opportunities to develop and grow through collaboration and mentorship with more senior colleagues.

Many of the senior team have grown with the business, starting as junior or mid-weight writers and now holding senior roles.

Every writer gets a regular 1:1 with their creative lead every three months.

There are talks and workshops for organisations like 20/20 Change, Future London Academy, and Brixton Finishing School, bringing advice and insight to aspiring creatives.

The company is currently developing an internship scheme, with guidance from expert partners.
