Inside the Company

Every day it features innovative, exciting graphic design, illustration, photography, art, animation and lots more. Highlighting both emerging and established creatives, it aims to share unique work, creative ideas and processes with its audience. The team also commissions original creative work for editorial and commercial projects, always with the aim of championing original creativity and its ability to amplify messages. In addition, It’s Nice That hosts a monthly talks event called Nicer Tuesdays, where all sorts of creatives share insights into recent landmark projects.

Mission and Vision

The publication’s core mission is to champion creativity in all its forms, and its driving ethos is that creative inspiration should be for everyone. As a company, It’s Nice That aims to always be democratic, positive and open-minded. The essential goal is to open up the creative world to the widest possible audience. Part of It’s Nice That’s mission, therefore, is also to help diversify the creative industry and make it more accessible for creative people from underrepresented communities.

Culture and Benefits

The company has a democratic and collaborative spirit, where everyone’s ideas are heard. If you are passionate about something, you are given the tools, trust and encouragement to make it happen. The culture is very friendly, creative, supportive and open. All employees have access to personal development and training opportunities via YCN, and there are quarterly Values Awards to reward employees who have best embodied the company values with recent projects. The team gets together as a group (IRL and virtually) for the regular Monday Morning Meeting, and Friday ‘Thangs’, which can be anything from a talk to a workshop – not to mention the Sports Day and Christmas parties. The company runs on flexitime working time, so that staff can fit their day around exercise, childcare, or just a long lunch when the sun’s out!

Opportunities

Because it’s a relatively small team, junior members can get stuck into all sorts of projects from the outset. This includes both editorial and commercial work, offering a chance to learn quickly while developing skills.

All staff create a development plan for their job and career goals, and have monthly check-ins with their line manager to work towards those, as well as a yearly appraisal. In addition, there are loads of opportunities to get involved in company-wide projects.

Externally, It’s Nice That runs mentoring workshops and portfolio reviews with young creatives via partner educational initiatives. Editorially, the team are always looking for emerging talent – usually found through research, or when a portfolio is submitted to us.
