As a trainee in our Brand, Marketing and PR team, you’ll help bring books to schools across the UK — planning author events, writing newsletters, and creating digital content for campaigns like the National Year of Reading 2026.
Penguin Random House Children’s are the UK’s no.1 children’s publisher, home to Puffin and Ladybird, and some of the most recognised entertainment brands and authors. Our mission is to publish a book for every child, everywhere, as we believe the right book can inspire a child to feel they can be and do anything.
As a trainee within the award winning Children’s Brand, Marketing and PR team, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and events as part of the National Year of Reading. The National Year of Reading 2026 is a government campaign to address the steep decline in reading amongst children, young people and adults. As part of the Children’s team, you would be supporting an extensive schools strategy and events programme with a goal of building a community of reading champions. You’ll help organise in person and virtual author events and engagement activities with schools, support the production of a regular Puffin Schools newsletter and create and update Puffin Schools website pages and resources. You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved with our Social Impact team’s work, including author events for our Libraries for Primaries initiative.
Knowledge and skills you’ll gain: an understanding of the education community and how they connect with books; in person and virtual event planning; communication skills; an understanding of the promotional journey of a book and how to reach audiences through marketing and PR strategies; copywriting skills; author care.
If you’re passionate about increasing access to books and bringing a love of reading to school children across the UK, this could be the role for you.
