We are looking for existing live works under 60 minutes that draw from theatre, dance, performance art, or interdisciplinary practice (we’re unlikely to accept conventional plays).

This is an opportunity for ESEA artists and live works to be part of Alternative Roots 2026, a day-long festival at Hoxton Hall, London. Curated by Ming Strike and supported by Arts Council England, Kakilang and Hoxton Hall, Alternative Roots is a festival celebrating interdisciplinary practices and the diversity of East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) creative communities in the UK. Building on its inaugural edition in 2025, Alternative Roots creates a space for artists, works and ideas that don’t easily fit into existing categories, bringing different art forms, approaches and communities together.

The selected artists will receive £400, venue and technical support, and documentation and marketing through our channels. The open call deadline is September 28th, 2026.

If this format is not accessible for you, please email Erika Au at [email protected] by September 20th. If you have any questions, we aim to offer as much access support as possible and welcome a conversation about your needs before you apply.
