Could you reimagine the cover of a bestselling book? The Penguin Cover Design Award is your opportunity to take on the role of a book cover designer and build your portfolio.

We’re looking for UK and Ireland-based designers and illustrators who haven’t yet had significant experience in a paid creative role to reimagine classic fantasy books 🧙‍♂️✨

🕰️ Night Watch by Terry Pratchett
☄️ A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

Experience real book cover design briefs and receive feedback from an Art Director!

Prizes include a six-month mentorship with a designer at Penguin, as well as a Wacom Intuos Pro Medium tablet and Penguin books to the value of £100 📚

How to Apply

Read the briefs to find out which one (or more) you’re interested in exploring further, start your research, reading and get designing!

Download the design template and cover copy for your chosen category and read the submission details for how your PDF file should be set up and named.

All entries must be submitted digitally via our submission form.

To make the process as close to the way our designers work, once the judges have selected the shortlist, the Art Directors will email the shortlisted entrants with individual feedback and further art direction on their cover designs.

The shortlisted entrants will then respond to this direction and have time to re-work their covers before re-sending ahead of the final in-person judging.

While we have publicised this opportunity, please note that: (i) the application and selection process is managed by the advertising company/organisation; and (ii) we rely on them to: provide accurate, up-to-date details about themselves and the opportunity; ensure that opportunities are ethical and paid fairly.
