Bridging the Gap offers development training, a cash budget, and one year of international festival distribution to emerging filmmakers based in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Bridging the Gap is dedicated to new and emerging talent based in Scotland and Northern Ireland with an idea for a short documentary.

This flagship programme combines professional development, production funding, and international festival distribution to launch emerging careers in documentary filmmaking.

We’re seeking surprising, challenging, and moving submissions that embrace the possibilities of the documentary genre, subvert expectations in terms of form and content, and offer a thought-provoking insight into these challenging times.

THE PROGRAMME

Twelve projects are shortlisted based on proposals and visual materials. Selected filmmakers will develop their ideas through intensive workshops led by international filmmakers and leading industry professionals.

After pitching to our expert panel, up to 4 films receive full commission, cash budgets plus production and distribution support. The films will be delivered by May 2026 and are intended for distribution in cinemas and at festivals.
