Introducing Amplify U

Amplify U is our Early Talent Programme at Universal Music Group UK. It helps build a sustainable and inclusive talent pipeline by equipping emerging professionals with real-world experience, industry insight and the skills to forge a career in music.

Our Internship Overview

The Amplify U Internship is a structured, 12-month paid programme open to individuals aged 18 and over who demonstrate a strong interest in a career in the music industry. Interns are placed within specific departments and will gain meaningful, hands-on experience while developing professionally and personally through curated development sessions, projects and network-building opportunities.

The Role

As an Amplify U Intern, you’ll contribute to live business initiatives, learn directly from industry professionals and grow through tailored development. You’ll be immersed in the day-to-day of your department, gaining valuable skills and making a tangible impact.

Your day might include brainstorming innovative ways to deepen engagement with fans, desk research on cultural trends influencing an artist’s world and future, or helping to facilitate a focus group or expert interview that brings outside voices in. You will often be profiling different audiences using a range of data sets (numerical, visual and verbal) and bringing the fans’ perspective to life using cultural and creative references. You will be using data and insight to inform and inspire campaigns, artist stories and respond to real-time, fast turnaround questions from the labels on how their artists and competition are performing. Your day to day will be driven by supporting the strategy team with projects, some solo responsibilities for admin and reporting, and using your initiative to spot new opportunities, build relationships and elevate our work.

What you’ll learn:

  • Supporting your department’s projects and day-to-day operations
  • Conducting research, preparing documentation and assisting with admin tasks
  • Attending team meetings, training sessions and learning days
  • Contributing ideas and sharing your perspective as part of a collaborative team
  • Participating in cross-functional projects, intern network activities and final presentations
  • Preparing for and conducting workshops
  • Synthesising data and cultural research into evocative presentations that drive decision-making.

Learning & Development

Throughout your internship, you will benefit from:

  • A dedicated onboarding experience, including UMG UK immersion and coaching
  • A Lumina Spark strengths profile and one-to-one coaching session
  • Quarterly soft skills workshops (e.g. presenting, time management)
  • Networking sessions with professionals across UMG UK
  • Intern shadowing days and unique industry experiences
  • Ongoing check-ins and final internship review with career planning support

Who you are:

  • A confidence and literacy in youth subculture – a strong sense of emerging trends, music artists and fashion and your own POV on it
  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive, flexible mindset
  • Aged 18 or over at the time of application, interview, onboarding and placement
  • A genuine interest in music and contributing to Universal and the industry for good
  • A reliable, enthusiastic and positive can-do attitude, no matter the task
  • Naturally intellectually curious and creative
  • Somebody who likes absorbing and understanding information rapidly
  • Clear-minded and analytical – able to make sense of material, and to make the complex simple
  • Flair for communication, written or spoken

Qualifications:

There are no specific academic requirements. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and experiences.
