Studio Assistant

Location: Strongroom Studios, Shoreditch, London (On-site)

Hours: Part-time, 2 days per week (10.00am–6.00pm), ideally Thursdays and Fridays

Duration: Approximately 2 months

Salary: £14.80 per hour (London Living Wage) plus travel

About Sounds Like These

Sounds Like These is a music production and sound design company based at Strongroom Studios in Shoreditch. Working across music, advertising, television and commercial projects, the team creates original music, sound design and audio experiences for a wide range of clients. Alongside client work, Sounds Like These also runs Club WIP, a free music production workshop supporting emerging musicians and producers.

About the placement

Creative Opps is partnering with Sounds Like These to offer a paid Studio Assistant Placement for an aspiring music producer, sound designer or studio professional looking to gain practical experience within the music industry.

This placement offers the opportunity to work alongside a professional creative team, supporting the day-to-day running of a busy music production studio while developing practical skills across music production, sound design, studio operations, administration, events and content creation. Every week will bring new projects and learning opportunities, giving you a genuine insight into how a creative studio operates and delivers work for clients.

You’ll receive mentorship throughout the placement while contributing to live projects and developing the confidence, skills and experience needed to pursue a career within music and the wider creative industries.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the studio, including studio maintenance and organisation.
  • Providing general administrative support.
  • Assisting with music production and sound design for client projects where appropriate.
  • Researching new software, hardware and creative tools.
  • Supporting the delivery and promotion of Club WIP music production workshops.
  • Creating social media content to promote the studio and its work.
  • Assisting with the creation of sample packs using sounds recorded in the studio.

Person Specification

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about music, eager to learn and excited to work as part of a small creative team.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A genuine passion for music and sound.
  • Experience creating your own music and/or sound design.
  • An interest in current music, production and creative culture.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Confidence working collaboratively and responding positively to feedback.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using Logic Pro X and/or Pro Tools.
  • Experience creating content for social media.
  • An interest in recording, studio technology or audio production workflows.
