A creative workshop exploring memory, migration and belonging through drawing and painting What does home look like to you?

Is it the view from a window you once looked out of every morning, a street that lives in your memory, or a landscape you carry with you wherever you go?

Landscapes of Home is a gentle, creative session inviting participants to explore memory, nostalgia and hope through visual storytelling. Using drawing or painting, you’ll be guided to create an image of the view from a window that feels like home, whether that’s from your current space, a past home, or a striking landscape from your country of origin.

This session is part of the Threads of Us series, which creates welcoming spaces for people to share stories, reflect on identity and build connection through creativity.

Who is this for?

  • People who have recently arrived in the UK and are navigating feelings of change or displacement
  • Migrants, refugees and diaspora communities
  • Anyone feeling nostalgic for a place, time or home
  • Anyone interested in exploring memory, belonging and identity through art
  • No artistic experience needed — just curiosity and openness

Why now?

Many people today are living between places — physically, emotionally or culturally.
For those who have moved countries or experienced shifts in what “home” means, memories can feel both grounding and distant. This session offers a supportive environment to process those experiences creatively.

By sharing and making together, we hope to create space for reflection, connection and healing — and to honour the landscapes that shape who we are.

What to expect

  • A relaxed, welcoming creative workshop
  • Guided prompts to help you reflect on home and memory
  • Time to draw or paint your chosen landscape or window view
  • Optional sharing and group conversation
  • All materials provided (or bring your own if you prefer)

Aim of the session

To provide a supportive space where anyone can explore memory, nostalgia and hope through visual storytelling — and to recognise that home can exist in many places at once.
